Respiratory Researchers from the University of Melbourne, headed by Dr Jennifer Perret et al. published a study in June 2022 detailing the findings of their study focusing on the link between childhood lung problems and lung disease later in life. The study considers data from one of the world’s oldest surveys, the Tasmanian Longitudinal Health Study which follows 8,583 people born in 1961. While some links were found between childhood bronchitis and adult asthma, there was a significant correlation to adult pneumonia. A general trend was also noted that the severity of their adult conditions related directly to how many times and how long the individual was treated for respiratory tract infections as a child.
