Our friends at ABC radio called our Sleep Unit Manager Phil Teuwen to talk about sharing a blanket in bed.
Phil had a look into the literature and noted to the team that women tend to prefer a warmer environment and can be more sensitive to changes in temperature. Also that having a disturbed bed partner is associated with a decreased quality of sleep for the other bed partner.
So Phil concluded that if sharing a blanket is causing a sleep disturbance to one bed partner from a lack of blanket (which happens at Phil’s house), or a blanket that is either too thick or too thin then it may be time to consider sleeping with two separate blankets.
Kat Feeney was pretty keen on the idea, and in truth now so is Phil (pending approval from his wife)
