Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines are essential for treating obstructive sleep apnea and preventing breathing pauses during sleep. The CPAP system consists of a pump delivering air through a tube to a mask, keeping the airway open. However, without regular cleaning, CPAP machines can harbor bacteria and mold, which poses health risks such as, skin infections or respiratory issues. Cleaning CPAP components daily with hot, soapy water and weekly with vinegar helps prevent contamination. Alternatively, high-tech cleaners utilizing activated oxygen or ultraviolet light promise convenience, though their efficacy compared to manual cleaning remains unproven. Despite costing $250 to $350, their convenience might justify the expense. It emphasises the importance of cleanliness for CPAP users’ health and recommends investing in either manual or high-tech cleaning methods to maintain machine hygiene effectively.
