Here at TSGQ, we want to promote good sleep habits and the improvement of sleep and wellness by sharing information about the “World Sleep Day”. World Sleep Day is an annual event that has as a purpose increasing the prevention of most sleep disorders and make a call to action on important problems related to sleep.

The slogan for this year is “Sleep Soundly, Nurture Life”. Sound sleep, is one of the three pillars of good health along with a balanced diet and regular exercise. Sleep plays an important role in our society, investigations have shown that Individuals who get an entire night’s sleep, without any interruptions actually experience lower rates of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and other chronic illnesses.

Nowadays, sleep problems constitute a global epidemic threatening the health and quality of life for almost 50% of the people in the world2. Did you know there are about 100 different disorders of sleep? Most of these are actually preventable and treatable.

The three elements of good quality sleep are:

  • Duration: The length of sleep should be sufficient for the sleeper to be rested and alert the following day.
  • Continuity: Sleep periods should be seamless without fragmentation.
  • Depth: Sleep should be deep enough to be restorative.
