13 Mar World Sleep Day 2026
Happy World Sleep Day!
World Sleep Day is a campaign, founded in 2008, that takes place all over the globe with the goal of raising awareness around sleep health. In the past decade, in the Oceanic region, sleep awareness activities have increased almost four times. Showcasing how prevalent and passionate our sleep community are and continue to be down under.
Every year a theme is chosen, with the theme of 2026 being “Sleep Well, Live Better.” Sleep being one of the three main pillars of good health, alongside nutrition and exercise. Quality sleep has been proven to pivotal for healthy brain development, cardiovascular development, prevention of chronic sleep disorders and many other medical ailments. Ergo, our community’s theme and its message sleeping well will allow individuals to live better.
This year an Australian sleep delegate – Laura Rigden – is promoting her activity “Sleep Sound” that will look at unlocking the power of rest and promoting good sleep. The activity is an hour session with a blend of anonymous polls, videos, activities and discussions to cover the topics of:
- The science of sleep—why it matters and how it works
- What is sleep hygiene, and how can you improve it?
- Common sleep challenges and practical strategies for better rest
- A guided reflection on your sleep habits and ways to enhance them
This is a great opportunity, even in viewing retrospectively to see how to optimise your sleep, something you spend over a third of your life doing.
Many other nations also have activities for viewing (language difference aside) that would also be just as informing. If not even more eye opening to see how other cultures approach sleep and overall their perspectives.
With all that said, that should be enough for anyone to start their sleep education journey.
I will leave all our lovely readers a wish, from all of the staff at TSGQ, to have a wonderful World Sleep Day.
