01 Dec Take your clothes off … and have a good sleep
We usually try to find tips to sleep well and have a restorative night. Searching for some recommendations, I have found an interesting article written for Travis Bradberry, who is a writer and leader working in the field of emotional intelligence. In the article, he describes 4 ways how sleeping naked can make people healthier and wealthier explaining the benefits and making an invitation to give it a try.
The first reason that he exposed is that we sleep naked our sleep will be better for the reason that lowering our skin temperature increases the depth of our sleep and reduces the number of times we wake up in the night. Moreover, if we obtain a worthy quality sleep is good for our brain. He quoted one recent research from the University of Rochester which demonstrated that during the sleep the brain removes toxic proteins from its neurons that are by-products of neural activity when people are awake. It is true as well that the brain may remove these toxic proteins when people have a sleep with quality. People who do not experience deep and restorative sleep cannot eliminate those toxins causing impairing the ability to think, process information and solve basic problems.
The second reason is that sleeping naked reduces stress, proper rest helps to restore normal cortisol levels. Stress throws your cortisol levels high, affecting the cognitive performance and suppressing the immune system. Stress increases the risk of heart disease, depression, and obesity.
The third reason is that sleeping naked is Healthier, including helping you to lose weight. The author of this article mentioned a study conducted by the US National Institutes of Health which found that keeping yourself cool while you sleep speeds the body’s metabolism because your body creates more brown fat to keep you warm. This brown fat produces heat by burning calories (300 times more heat than any organ in the body), and this boosts your metabolism all day long to help you lose weight. Another reason is removing the clothes improves blood circulation, which is good for our skin, heart, and muscles. Lastly and no less important sleeping naked has anti-ageing benefits owing to a good sleep increases the production of growth hormone and melatonin.
Finally, Dr Bradberry said that sleeping naked builds confidence explaining that “confidence doesn’t just feel good; it’s the pillar of success. It pushes you to try new things, take on challenges, and persevere in the face of adversity”. He mentioned one study of the University of Melbourne which found that confident people earn higher wages and get promoted more often than their less confident counterparts. He concludes that sleeping naked makes you more comfortable in your own skin. As your comfort with your body increases so does your self-esteem and confidence.
All in all, it is in our hands… if you and I owe it to ourselves and give it a try.
